Billings Reaches End of the Trail

Derek Billings made a name for himself at this year's World Championships when he stayed on the lead card all the way to the semifinals. This weekend, he battled former world champ McCabe and took a big A-Tier win in Visalia, CA, winning by five strokes. Innova swept the top divisions with Carrie Berlogar and Patrick Brown also winning their divisions.
Vibram Open
Sarah Stanhope had a two stroke lead going into the final round at Maple Hill, and at the 18th tee, she was all tied up with Sarah Hokom. Stanhope layup tomahawk shot landed in-bounds, but slid in it's top just a foot out of bounds. Just like football, disc golf can be a game of inches. Sarah finished one stroke out of first, while Valarie Jenkins finished third, six strokes off the lead.
In the Open division, Paul McBeth, Paul Ulibarri and Steve Brinster tied for third place. Paul Ulibarri was one of just 4 players to shoot under par all three round. McBeth and Brinster had tough first rounds but their final two were stellar. Brinster was under the weather, and actual slept in a local hospital at night, amazing to perform that well while under the weather. Will Schusterick's sixth place finish had bookend great rounds, with a tough second round. Also playing well were Ricky Wysocki in 8th, and Avery Jenkins in 11th.
In the auxiliary events, it was a Rookie of the Year showdown in the putting contest, with David Wiggins Jr. taking down Ricky Wysocki in double secret overtime. Paul McBeth won the distance CTP contest with a huge shot that landed inside 33 feet on the 700 foot hole. Sick!
Southern Nationals Pro Championship
Matt Orum played consistent championship golf in Huntsville, AL. He got his second win of the season and a patriotic paycheck of $1776. Kevin McCoy shot his way into seventh place, Matt Dollar cashed in ninth, and Clayton Nash rambled in in tenth.
Dean Tannock had a big lead going into the finals but failed to convert, losing the win by a stroke. Lavone Wolfe also took second in Grandmasters shooting well above his rating.
Tale of Two Rivers
Innova was dominant in WA this weekend as Kyle Crabtree and Chandler Fry ran away from the Open field at the Tale of Two Rivers tournament. Chandler led all the way, but Kyle shot 3 strokes better in the finals to take the win by one.
