What determines which division you choose?
# of players, strength of division players.
Most memorable tournament and why:
Too many to say... Huntsville '82 (my 1st Worlds), Charlotte '86 Worlds, Phoenix Worlds in 1991, Flagstaff Worlds, Iowa (Des Moines) Worlds, All 1980's Triple Crowns in Florida
2007 schedule:
Columbia (2), Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Wilmington, Augusta, Charlotte (2), Burlington (2), Kingsport, Chapin, Yadkinville (2), Winston Salem, Charleston (2), West Jefferson, Elberton Ga., Hickory, High Point, Durham
My favorite events:
USDGC - Where else do you go and feel like you are competing in a professional event.
Augusta - They have always had exceptional staffing for their events and there is something about golf in Augusta!
Kingsport, TN - Camping and a fun course in a beautiful setting. Good country folks in them thar hills.
What is you most memorable win?
But, the 1st time of few that I beat Tom Monroe (my mentor) at Triple Crown event in Rockledge Florida. I do not really remember the rounds or scores.
Most Memorable Experience:
Being elected to the Disc Golf Hall of Fame at Houston Worlds 2001.
My Proudest Moments:
Watching my career friends Carlton Howard and Stan McDaniel being elected to the Hall of Fame.
Most Humbling Experience:
Seeing my friend Steve Lambert walk in the banquet room during the Hall of Fame session at the Houston Worlds.
Life Time Experiences:
Traveling for years with my dg partner Steve Lambert
Meeting Ed Headrick for the 1st time. (1981 Athens Ga. My 2nd PDGA tournament. He took 6-7 of us to dinner.
Meeting Harold Duvall in Oklahoma in 1985 Worlds after his 2nd Worlds win.
Being picked up by Brent Hamrick at Orlando Airport after arriving from Charlotte for the week long Triple Crown event .
What do you do for fun when you are NOT playing disc golf?
Ball golf (watch & play), fishing.
Advice:
Ask for and seek advise from better players especially pros.
Enjoy the game and don't over do it to avoid burn out.
Get and use the right disc golf equipment including clothes, shoes, rain gear disc golf bag and discs.
Play in local club events to improve your game and meet new players.
One last note:
I track the # of rounds I play each year. As of January 1, 2007 played 3537 rounds of disc golf. 26 year average of 136 rounds a year or 2.8 rounds a week for 26 years.
