Distance Drivers:
2
Firebirds –
one new, one beat – for heavy wind conditions
and all long or midrange spike hyzers. Also for all
skip shots
2
Orcs –
all purpose driver. Usually used for 350-70 foot slight
s-curve shots under most conditions. Also used for long
flat shots that finish strong at the end 300 – 350.
2
Pro Orcs – long
tail wind drives. Release with a lot of hyzer and it
will stand up and flip slightly.
Fairway Drivers:
3
Pro TeeBirds – brand new – Use
for long drives with little or no wind. Also for long
hyzer shots with little to
medium wind. One of the t-birds is a 165 gram which
I use on almost all long anhyzer shots 320 + and some
tailwind drives.
1
Pegasus –
medium range spike hyzer – is in and out of the
bag
Mid-Range:
1
Stingray– roller
1
Panther – On
a woodsy course will throw a lot. Will get left out
of the bag on an open course. Used for most straight,
tight fairways under 300 ft.
1
Roc and one Glo Roc – One is new and the other is old. I use for all
shots 200 – 320 ft. Anhyzer, straight, hyzer.
Putt & Approach:
2
Rhynos – one
brand new, the other beat. Use the new one for heavy
wind upshots. I use the beat one for many straight or
anhyzer shots 150 – 220.
3
Aviars – Use
for most short up shots and for longer anhyzer upshots.
One of them is my putter.
Memorable Win:
Herington, KS - 1998. I beat Crazy John Brooks and Laron Harris by one
stroke by hitting a 30 ft into the wind putt on the last hole. I shot 20
under for the day. It was my first solid win as a pro and fueled me to
continue working on my game.
My favorite events:
The
USDGC is by far the most well-run
professional, fun, and competitive
tournament around. The staff make
you feel like you have accomplished
something even before you tee off
on the first hole.
The KC Wide Open is 2nd on my list. Great courses
and it is always
professionally run.
Most memorable event:
The 2002 USDGC was the first time I attended
that tournament. The USDGC is an awesome event and
I hope to attend many more. My brother flew with me
to Rock Hill and caddied for me the entire tournament.
The weather and the course were incredible.
Goals:
My short goal is to continue playing competitively
despite a year off for knee surgery in 2003 and my
limited ability to play as often as necessary.
My long term goal is to overcome these barriers and
work my way back to a top 25 player.
Advice:
Work on accuracy before distance. Use only a few types of discs when
you start. Play in a higher division than your level of play as often
as you can. Watching and following the styles of good players creates
good habits. Early on, watching Crazy John , Randy Brown and Laron
Harris play did wonders for my game.
