How did you get started playing disc golf?
I worked for a county water authority in 1990 - one day we finished up early and went into Burke Lake Park. My partner was working on school work and I went for a walk around the park. I found the baskets and told others at work about it. A couple had played before so they took me on the weekend. I was hooked. I was lucky to meet some tournament players early and played my 1st tournament in Mar 1990, one month later played 1st PDGA - I won Am2 and beat all the Am1's.
Goals:
Lose some weight - gain more stamina.
Practice - I think this will really help, I havne't practiced for 2 years
Get to and over 100 wins
Memorable Win:
1995 Shoe Sensation - Now named Bowling Green Open (Bell south open)
1st and only tournament me in 1st, Climo in 2nd. Ken's legacy and ability to win tournaments and having a win over him is quite memorable. 1995 he didn't win only 2 events he played. The other was Duck Golf - (I tied him for 2nd to R.J. Jerez)
My favorite events:
USDGC - It doesn't get any better than this.
World's - Lotsa golf over 5 days, more is better
Laurel Springs - Got to enjoy 3 years of this Blue Ridge Paradise
West Va. Open - Crazy courses need lotsa arm, patience, luck and exact shots. Sunday night party!
G.L.O. - Good shot, good courses.
Advice:
Practice like you play in tournaments - do rounds to learn shots and try things, but play plenty of rounds like you're in a tournament. Don't throw that second putt no matter how much you're bothered, make the first one count.
Throwing far is fun, but learning the short game is where you make or break your round. This is a game of consistency, not distance. Learn to be consistent in the short game and watch those bogeys disappear - Aviars rule.
