Favorite Disc Golf Hole: 5th Idlewild

Home Course : University of Wyoming object course.

Number of Aces : Incredible, but I have never had an ace in competition.

Longest Measured Throw : 451' (on level terrain).

How did you get started disc golfing?
Two friends set up an object course on campus. Being isolated in Wyoming, they thought they had invented the game. As they described it to me, I remember thinking "Boy, does that sound stupid". They got me to go out with them one day, and I discovered right away that I was good at it. Suddenly it didn't seem stupid any more.

What are your goals?

I want to set standards of performance and professionalism that will inspire older players, and perhaps some younger ones as well. I want to convince the PDGA to continue to acknowledge the importance of fierce, competitive and professional experiences for older players.

What are your favorite tournaments?
USDGC - This event oozes class from top to bottom. I'd play it again in a heartbeat, any year, if I weren't taking a spot from a better player.
Any Worlds - I enjoy the scale, the duration and the pressure.
Des Moines Challenge - Several awesome courses and a great organization.
Colorado States - Culmination of the Colorado "Thin Air Tour" - usually my final tournament of the season.

What is your most memorable tournament?
2006 Pro Worlds in Augusta – Grittiest performance for sure.  I was down eleven strokes to Pete May halfway through, and down by four entering the semis.  I never led until the next to last hole of the final round.

What is your most memorable win?
Coming from behind to catch Jim Palmeri in the last round of the 1998 Worlds. Everyone (including me) expected him to win. It was the first time I realized that I was a good player, with potential to be even better, and that I was tough under pressure.

What advice can you give to beginners?
Depends on your objectives. If you want to improve:
1. Ask good experienced players for advice and demos.
2. Don't play very much recreationally.
3. Practice by yourself in an open area.
4. Throw away your trophies when you win.
5. Move up, so you always face better players.
