Round Four Recap

Day Four of the PDGA World Championships brought the storyline we were hoping for here at Innova! Calvin Heimburg went on an absolute heater, shooting a -11 to make his way onto the final round lead card. He will need to overcome tournament leader and recent Major winner, Isaac Robinson, as well as young gun, up-and-comer Evan Scott. With the season Vinny has been putting together, it feels like this is his year to win the big one.

In FPO, Kristin Tattar will be going into the final round with a sizable lead over Missy Gannon. Behind those two sits a large pool of players fighting for 3rd. Finnish superstars Henna Blomroos and Eveliina Salonen are still well in contention for a podium result.

Team Innova FPO Highlights

Henna Blomroos

With Missy Gannon and Kristin Tattar pulling away from the field, the FPO division of the 2023 PDGA World Championships has become a battle for 3rd place. Henna Blomroos is firmly in the mix to secure that last podium position. She is 3rd in the field in Strokes Gained Tee to Green and has the 3rd lowest OB rate in the FPO. Henna shot -3 in the fourth round, enough to move her onto the final-round chase card. Another round like that should be enough to secure a Top 10 or better.

Eveliina Salonen

Eveliina Salonen sits just one stroke behind Henna and will also be playing on the final-round chase card. She leads the field in C1 Hits in Regulation and Parked percentage and is 2nd in Strokes Gained Tee to Green. Eveliina has never finished outside the top 5 at a disc golf World Championships. If she wants to keep that streak alive, she will need to shoot multiple strokes under par in the final round.

Alex Benson

Vermont local Alex Benson has been playing fantastic disc golf here in her home state. She is sitting even par for the event through the first four rounds. She is 7th in the field in Strokes Gained Putting, but has been getting work done off the tee as well. Her best ever Worlds finish was 19th place last year. One more solid round of golf and she will have that beat.

Jennifer Allen

Jennifer Allen shot her best round of the event so far on Day Four, -1 on Fox Run. The highlight of Jen’s round was a 144-foot throw in on Hole 15. Her best ever Worlds result is 7th place. If Jen can keep it together through the last day of competition, she is still in contention to secure her first Worlds top 5.

Team Innova MPO Highlights

Calvin Heimburg

Calvin Heimburg will be playing on the final-round lead card of the 2023 PDGA World Championships. After a slow start to the event, Vinny has gained ground on the leaders with each subsequent round. On Day Four, he looked his best, executing 12 birdies and one eagle through 18 holes. Only two players have a lead over Calvin going into the final round. Isaac Robinson sits four strokes ahead and Evan Scott sits one stroke ahead. With how badly Calvin wants this win and how well he plays the Fox Run course, Isaac and Evan better play the rounds of their lives if they plan to hold off a charging Vinny.

Bradley Williams

Bradley Williams shot a blistering -10 yesterday to launch himself up the leaderboard into a tie for 29th place. He made 60% of his C2 putts in the fourth round. His girlfriend Lykke Lorentzen is playing on the lead card of the FPO division and we suspect her strong performance is helping to fuel Bradley.

Joel Freeman

After three straight rounds without taking an OB stroke, Joel Freeman had some trouble keeping it between the lines in Round Four. That said, he had an incredible round of scrambling to shoot -5 on the day. Joel is four strokes off the pace for a top 20 finish. A double-digit, under-par round is far from out of the question for a player with Joel’s skillset. It will take that kind of shooting if he wants to secure his top 20.

The Most Important Round of the Year

Day Five of the PDGA World Championships is arguably the most important round of disc golf all year. Especially on the MPO side where many players remain in striking distance of the lead, expect aggressive disc golf and extremely low scores. Catch the action live on the Disc Golf Network.
