The Final Piece
Team Innova’s FPO athletes have won six of the season’s first ten Elite Series and Major events and the latest is the most significant yet. Eveliina Salonen took down last weekend’s European Open to complete her Career Grand Slam, becoming just the third player to accomplish the feat since the introduction of the Champions Cup.Eveliina Salonen – 1st
Since the start of 2024, Eveliina Salonen has won four Major championships, more than any other FPO player. The European Open joins the 2024 PDGA Champions Cup, 2024 PDGA World Championship, 2025 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship, and 2018 Konopiště Open on her growing list of Major victories. The final piece came last weekend in Estonia. Salonen entered Sunday tied for the lead before delivering the hot round of the tournament. She birdied five of her first six holes and by the end of the day had carded a 1031-rated, 9-under to secure a four-stroke victory. While Eveliina led the tournament wire-to-wire, it remained a tight race until her blistering final round. The driving statistics were right in line with Eveliina’s world-class tee-to-green game. She led the field in both Circle 1 Hits in Regulation and Strokes Gained Tee to Green. This time, however, her putting separated her from the field. Salonen converted 91% of her Circle 1 putts and gained nearly six strokes on the field putting. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, when Eveliina’s putter gets hot, no one in the field has a higher ceiling. Despite playing only six events this season, Salonen has already won twice, taking down the Kansas City Wide Open back in April. She has not finished outside the Top 10 since her opening event of the year. This win moves Eveliina eight spots up the DGPT standings into sixth place. With fewer events counting toward her point total than the players ahead of her, Salonen’s position in the World Standings, even at sixth, is underrepresenting her elite level of play. Looking back across her Major victories, the progression is striking. Eveliina won her first Major title at the 2018 Konopiště Open with a 959-rated performance. Eight years later, she completed the Career Grand Slam at the European Open with a 1007-rated tournament rating, the highest-rated Major victory of her career. The accomplishment places Eveliina alongside Kristin Tattar and Paige Pierce as the only players to complete the Career Grand Slam in the Champions Cup era. The collection is complete, but Salonen’s career is still in its prime. With the Career Grand Slam secured, she’s no doubt a hall of famer. Now it’s about how many Major titles, Elite Series victories, highlights, and records she can amass in the coming years.View this post on Instagram
