Innova’s FPO Team Shines in Stockton

Innova’s women showed just how deep our FPO team is at last weekend’s OTB Open. We had four players in the top ten, with Ohn Scoggins taking 2nd and Emily Beach taking 3rd. Those were Ohn and Emily’s best DGPT finishes so far this season. For the MPO, Calvin Heimburg continued a perfect streak of DGPT top tens in 2023.

Ohn Ties for Most Podium Finishes in FPO

Ohn Scoggins took 2nd place at last weekend’s OTB Open, making for her fifth podium finish at a DGPT event so far this year. She is tied for the most podiums of any player in the division.

Ohn’s strong result in Stockton is proof that even on the longest of courses, putting is the most important element of the game. Though many of her competitors outdrove Ohn on the long holes of Swanson Park, her performance on the green more than made up for it. Ohn led the field in Strokes Gained Putting, and was 2nd in both C1 and C2 Putting percentages. Ohn was also 2nd in the field in Scramble percentage.

Scoggins moved into 2nd place of the Disc Golf Pro Tour Points Standings for the year. She is currently the 2nd highest rated player in the FPO at 977 and the 3rd ranked player in the world by Udisc. That makes Ohn undoubtedly the best FPO player on tour yet to win a DGPT event. With her consistency week after week, it feels almost inevitable that Ohn has a big win upcoming this season.

Beach’s Best Result of 2023

Team Champion’s newest addition, Emily Beach, finished 3rd place at the 2023 OTB Open, her best result at a DGPT event so far this year. Emily looked solid both off the tee and on the green. She led the field in Strokes Gained C1x and was 3rd in Strokes Gained Putting. She was also 2nd in C2 Hits in Regulation. With such a great balance in her abilities, Emily Beach has all the skills needed to win a Pro Tour event.

Emily is still relatively new to the tour. Last year, in her first full season, she won Rookie of the Year. She podiumed at two Elite Series events in 2022 and had top finishes at multiple others. As she gains more experience on lead cards at the most prestigious events, Emily will be a player to watch out for.

FPO Players in the Top 10

Hailey King continued a string of great results, taking 6th place at the OTB Open. She was 3rd in the field in Strokes Gained Tee to Green for the weekend. Kat Mertsch, coming off a huge win in Jonesboro, was able to back it up with another top ten finish in Stockton. Both players sit in the top ten of the DGPT Standings for 2023.

MPO Players in the Top 10

For the MPO, Calvin Heimburg took 6th place. Calvin has not finished outside the top ten of any DGPT event so far in 2023. He maintains his first place position in the DGPT Points Standings for the season. Teammate, Garrett Gurthie took 10th, his best Elite Series finish so far this year.

The 2023 Beaver State Fling presented by Innova

Next weekend is the Beaver State Fling presented by Innova, many players favorite stop on tour. The beautiful scenery, epic course, and amazing event staff all contribute to Milo McIver’s popularity. This year, players will face an entirely new layout.

The 2023 Beaver State Fling presented by Innova continues the evolution of this legendary event in some very exciting ways!  The DGPT touring pros will play a new 18 hole course that utilizes the best holes that Milo McIver has to offer along with a few combined holes that will create some serious drama down the stretch.
-Tournament Director, Jesse Tomaino

Calvin Heimburg has won two out of three Innova sponsored events this season. The mix of open and wooded holes at the Beaver State Fling benefits a well-rounded player like Calvin. Garrett Gurthie won the BSF in 2022 and will be looking to defend that title. Joel Freeman came in a close second to Garrett and is looking for redemption. In the FPO, Ohn Scoggins is coming off three consecutive podium finishes. She will be a favorite to take down the 2023 BSF in the women’s division.
