Seasonal Swapouts: Tune Your Bag for Winter

Fight the Freeze

Winter is coming. Discs stiffen, power dips, and your go-tos stop flying the way you expect. But don’t roll over and let the cold add strokes to your rounds. A few smart swapouts are all it takes to get back the flights you’re missing.

General rule: softer plastics + slightly less stable molds = better grip, cleaner releases, and less emphasis on arm speed.

Plastic Swapouts

Halo Star / Star → GStar

GStar is our top premium plastic recommendation for winter. It’s more flexible than traditional Star, just as durable, and stays grippy even below freezing.

Champion / Metal Flake → Proto Glow Champion

Proto Glow Champion brings the same torque resistance as traditional Champ with added grip. And with sunset before 5, our brightest, longest-lasting glow yet is a huge bonus.

DX / KC Pro → Nexus, R-Pro, or JK Pro

Nexus: Grippy and more durable than DX.
R-Pro: The best all-condition grip in our lineup.
JK Pro: Soft, tacky, and trusted by 5x World Champ Juliana Korver.

Disc Swapouts

Why Less Stable in Winter? Cold hands, extra layers, stiff joints, and cautious footwork all sap power. With less energy going into the throw, a slightly slower or less stable disc keeps your flights where they should be. Let the disc do the work in winter.

Destroyer → Racer

The Racer gives you Destroyer-level distance with a touch less effort — like a Destroyer that comes seasoned straight out of the box.

Innova Pro Gorgon

Wraith → Gorgon

The Gorgon delivers Distance Driver flights with Fairway Driver feel. When your fingers are frozen, taking a bit of speed off often means much better accuracy.

Teebird → TL

The TL is the TeeBird’s straighter-flying brother. In winter, hitting fairways is everything — fewer lost discs under snow and leaves.

Innova Proto Glow Champion Leopard3

Eagle → Leopard3

Honestly, you should bag both year-round. But for those 300-foot tunnels you pure with an Eagle in the summer, reach for a Leopard3 when the mercury drops.

Roc3 → Jay

The Jay has surprising torque resistance, so still give it a firm throw — it just won’t fade as hard as your Roc3.

Innova Star Fox

Mako3 → Fox

The Fox offers effortless glide and a super-straight carry — perfect for one-disc winter rounds or any hole where center fairway is the main goal.

AviarX3 → Invader

The Invader has the flat top and torque resistance of an AviarX3 but with a straighter finish.

Innova R-Pro Xero Green

Aviar → Xero

The Xero hangs in the air longer, fighting that cold-air drop and keeping your putts above the cage.

Be a Winter Warrior

This “Winter Warrior” lineup is a great place to start — strong swapouts for a player who normally bags a Star Racer, Champion TeeBird, Halo Star Lion, and DX Aviar, or something similar.

With the right discs in the right plastics, your winter lines don’t have to suffer. Grab something softer, a touch less stable, think warm thoughts, and hit the course.
