Control Over Distance
If you’re trying to score better (and not just throw farther), there’s one adjustment that can quietly improve your game: throw more Putters off the tee. It’s not as flashy as going for chains with a Driver, but Putters fly straight, land soft, and stay in the fairway—and that usually pays off.
Putt, Approach, (and Drive!)
Stay in Play
Putters stay on line and don’t exaggerate mistakes. Even when you miss, results tend to be calmer than they would be with a faster disc—fewer wild kicks, fewer big skips, fewer disasters.
Putters Go Farther Than You Think
A clean Putter throw can cover a lot of ground without needing crushing speed. The benefit of staying in the center of the fairway often outweighs any loss in distance.

Breakdown Par 4s and 5s
Putting your first shot in the middle sets up the rest of the hole. Two hundred feet off the tee and in the center might be plenty to set up a birdie look, but if your tee shot trickles into the woods on a Par 5, you often have to lay up to get back into position.
Learn Proper Throwing Habits
Neutral and understable putters are touchy. If you can throw one straight, you’re doing the important stuff right—hitting your angle, spinning the disc, and releasing cleanly.

When Not to Throw a Putter
Steep uphill shots usually need more speed than you think. Even 200 feet uphill might call for a Mid or Fairway. And if a shot relies on a big skip, you’ll want a faster disc with a wider rim.
Innova’s Best Throwing Putters
AviarX3 3 | 2 | 0 | 3
Overstable and torque-resistant. Reach for the AviarX3 in the wind or when you want to throw a putter hard without worrying about it burning over. Thrown flat, it flies surprisingly straight and lands without a big skip.
Aviar3 3 | 2 | 0 | 2
Flatter and faster-feeling than a traditional Aviar, the Aviar3 still has a familiar feel. For when you want a straight tee shot that won’t drift off line or glide past the target.
Invader 3 | 2 | 0 | 1
A putter designed for throwing, with a flat top and small bead that makes it easy to grip-n-rip. The Invader handles power on both backhands and forehands, and looks especially good doing it in Luster Champion plastic.
Animal 2 | 1 | 0 | 1
Stable, low-glide, slow putter that shines on short forehands and controlled tee shots. The Animal sits down quickly and doesn’t try to do anything extra.
Xero 2 | 3 | 0 | 0
Point-and-shoot putter with very little fade. The Xero can get you inside the circle off the tee and then make easy work of the putt you have left. A great choice for one-disc rounds.
Sonic 1 | 2 | -4 | 0
A touch disc for running chains from 150 feet and in. Beginner friendly, but still sneaky good for power players—loved by one of the world’s longest throwers, Garrett Gurthie. Give it a run with the Sonic and stay close if you miss.
