Memorable Win:
2008 Lakewood Open – I played great all weekend (1037 avg.) and only won the event by a single stroke over Mike “Big Dog” Werth from Washington. We played together all 3 rounds and the final nine and were never separated by more than 3 strokes. Mike is a great competitor and playing against him where every single shot mattered so obviously was some of the most fun I have had playing a disc golf tournament.Advice:
Learn to throw understable drivers and midranges so you can develop touch and finesse instead of just crushing fast and stable discs on every hole. Start out with a something like a Stingray or Dart and once you have some measure of control with that then experiment with faster and more stable molds. Make your footwork compact, deliberate, and repeatable so you can count on it in a variety of conditions and in pressure situations.Goals:
Continue teaching disc golf at Oregon State University and help start an OSU disc golf team. Find a job related to my degree (Environmental Science) that allows me to keep playing a lot of disc golf. Finish top 20 at 2010 USDGC and World Championships. Improve my player rating and PDGA World Ranking in 2010. Keep improving my skills through practice and seeking advice from better players.Additional comments:
I just want to thank everyone who volunteers time and energy to help run tournaments or promote the sport of disc golf. Everyone playing today owes a lot to the people who designed and built the courses or ran the events. I also want to say thanks again to my sponsors for their support Innova Champion Discmania Huk Lab Keen Shoes Revolution Odwalla Stimpi Ridge Disc Golf.Starfire
The Starfire is a nice all-around driver. Not too stable, not too flippy, just what a golf disc should be.
Dart
One of the straightest discs I have ever thrown. Perfect for approach shots and drives under 300ft. It takes the angle you give it and it just keeps flying. Don't let the word "putter" fool you, this disc can keep up with a Roc.
Polecat
The Polecat is a straight flying putt and approach disc perfect for people who come from a background in Ultimate, Freestyle, or even a backyard game of catch.
